Do you know how to live in grace?

If you’re a Christian, then you’ve heard about “grace.”  Most likely you already know that grace is a gift given without any strings, an undeserved favor, a benefit that can’t be earned.  And you know that because grace is how your relationship with God started.  By trusting in Jesus’ death for you, you were given God’s gift with no strings, His undeserved favor, the benefit that can’t be earned no matter how hard you work at it.  You were graced with salvation, because salvation is by grace.

Yes, that’s how you started in a relationship with God.  But now what?  How do you continue in that relationship?  How do you grow up in Jesus?  The answer is the same: grace.  Sadly, while many Christians know all about receiving God’s grace, they often know little about living in it.  Sound familiar?  Go ahead, check it out.  Here are three ways to decide if you’re living in grace.

Living in grace brings real freedom from Old Testament rules.  Like tithing.  And keeping a Sabbath day.  And a long list of other regulations that God had intended for His Old Covenant People, not for those belonging to Jesus Christ.  Grace liberates us from the Law that kills.

Living in grace brings real freedom from religious rules.  Like not dancing or playing cards.  And a long list of other regulations that humans invented as a way to make God happy, when that has already been done in the cross.  Grace liberates us from the rules of men that often make secondary the Word of God.

Living in grace brings real freedom to mature as a Christian.  If you’re wondering whether you’ll eventually make it to heaven, you’re not living in grace.  If you’re still routinely asking God to forgive you, you’re not living in grace.  If you aren’t confident about your part in the Body, about your progress in the spiritual life, about maintaining meaningful connections with other believers…  Maybe you can relate.  Maybe it’s time to learn to live in grace.  And you can.
